Coastal Federal Credit Union Adds New IP VPN Solution

Coastal Federal Credit Union (CFCU), based in Raleigh, North Carolina, has 22 locations and 140,000 members. CFCU is one of the first customers to take advantage of Time Warner Telecom's expanded Virtual Private Networking (VPN) suite of products that now includes a managed network-centric, Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based VPN solution. Installation of a new IP VPN solution at 21 ATM locations will be completed by October 2005. Plans include expanding the VPN service to include as many as 50 additional locations.

"We now have the ability to easily add more capacity when needed and the quality and reliability of Time Warner Telecom's redundant, managed fiber networks is invaluable to us," said Jim Price, vice president of Facilities for Coastal Federal Credit Union. With the new VPN solution, CFCU can streamline their networks, connect headquarters with branch and satellite locations, and connect to a fully integrated, easily managed network backbone.

Networking

The Time Warner Telecom fiber network is one of the newest in the country with more than 20,000 route miles of fiber connected directly to over 5,500 building and a 10 Gbps IP backbone. This means we have the scalability to quickly add any VPN solution tailored for our customers' specific needs.

"This expanded portfolio gives us the ability to deliver multiple types of private networking solutions to meet the specific needs of a wide variety of enterprise customers," said Graham Taylor, senior vice president of Marketing for Time Warner Telecom. "Additionally, these solutions have become a platform for customers to converge their multiple networks, creating efficiencies in the network operations and saving them significant monthly expense on their telecom bills."

Customers like CFCU have the flexibility to add or make changes to their network configurations and the scalability to go from one to multiple locations. Compared to traditional WAN technologies, especially those based on leased lines, it is cost-effective. Our VPN services are also a viable replacement for ATM or Frame Relay.

In addition, CFCU is using Extended Native LAN (ENLAN) to create a national backbone across the Time Warner Telecom Ethernet infrastructure. CFCU can connect data centers with large backbone networks, use it for business continuity applications and replace a less flexible private network.

Using an Ethernet network, CFCU doesn't need to undergo a protocol conversion, thus avoiding the cost of additional equipment. ENLAN solutions provide speeds from 2 Mbps to 1 Gbps, sending preferred amounts of traffic from any location to any city across the country.

Companies like CFCU are taking advantage of the high-speed transmission, business continuity and ease of use ENLAN services provide. Is this solution right for you? Visit www.twtelecom.com for more information.
