Stellar Safety Continues Through 2007
A core part of Hornbeck Offshore's mission statement is to deliver services “with the utmost regard for the safety of individuals and the protection of the environment.” We believe that our ten-years of focus on and commitment to developing safe practices has led to a significant decrease in the Company’s Total Recordable Incident Rate and Lost Time Incident Rate since 1997.
Certifications and Classifications
Hornbeck Offshore has voluntarily pursued and received certifications and classifications that are not generally held by other offshore service companies. Some of the classifications and certifications include:
- Approval from the U.S. Coast Guard Streamlined Inspection Program
- Noncompulsory vessels certified under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code
- ISO 14001:2004 certification for environmental management
2007 Safety Results and 2008 Safety Goals Announced
Last year, Hornbeck Offshore continued to allocate resources toward developing and improving its Safety Management System. The 2007 company safety and environmental performance targets were exceeded, with the company delivering an overall recordable incident rate of just 0.15 based on the standard U.S. (OSHA) parameters. This rate was considerably lower than the Company’s 2007 goal.
In January, the Company announced goals for 2008:
- Personnel Safety – Hornbeck’s 2008 goal is to finish with no lost time incidents and a total recordable incident rate that is less than the 0.15 rate achieved in 2007.
- Environmental Stewardship (pollution prevention and environmental initiatives) – Hornbeck Offshore's goal is to have no environmental/pollution incidents that impact the environment. This entails no cargo handling spills in the tank barge fleet and no spills of fuel or liquid mud in its OSV or tug fleets.
Leader in Safety and Environmental Stewardship
Certification of Hornbeck Offshore’s management system programs by third parties is a core measure of the company’s leadership. Safety performance and the company’s pedigree is an important consideration for oil and gas operators, facilities, terminals, and refineries that choose Hornbeck Offshore for their marine support requirements.
Hornbeck Offshore's safety record can be attributed to an outstanding staff of safety professionals and conscientious vessel crews. Through safety programs and cash awards that focus and incentivize safe behavior and environmental responsibility as a top priorities, Hornbeck Offshore strives to exceed our industry’s highest personnel safety and environmental stewardship standards.
"Safety and environmental protection is just good business," said Carl Annessa, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Hornbeck Offshore. "If people are working safely, we are happy to reward tangibly that success. It allows us to maintain good relationships with our customers who want to be reassured that the integrity of their cargo will be preserved and that no one will be hurt when an HOS vessel is on the job."
